August 2020 Davar Monthly Update

A Note from the CEO

Probably each of us have experienced, or are experiencing, the significant impacts of this lingering pandemic. Many are suffering physically due to COVID while others are struggling emotionally or financially and some may be struggling spiritually, given the inability to gather in their local church to worship, learn and serve together. The world as we know it seems so unstable, yet where can we find a steady and firm foundation to stand upon and a refuge for weary lives? It is in the Lord!

“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” — Psalms 18:2

This Psalm of David reminds us that even during the many trials of our lives, the Lord remains our rock, our fortress, our deliverer, our shield, our salvation, our stronghold and our God. May these promises comfort us as we take refuge in our King and our God!

Even during a worldwide pandemic, the kingdom work of Davar continues.

I want to say thank you to those who have faithfully prayed and offered financial support as we press on to create opportunities for oral learners to fully experience the Bible in their home language. To God be all the glory!

Current 2020 Highlights

13 Recordings Completed

This includes the Kurdish Sorani full Bible, which is spoken by a population of over 7.2 million people.

16 Recordings Underway

We also have plans to begin additional recordings before the end of 2020.

48 Translation Recordings
Planned for India

We have already begun to record 3 audio Bibles this year and plan to complete the remainder over the next 2+ years.

Agreement to Record the Kinyarwanda Old Testament

The Bible Society of Rwanda has agreed to our recording in a language spoken by a population of 12.7 million.

The Word of God for the People of India

Of the nearly 1.4 billion people living in India less than 5% are Christian. There is a tremendous opportunity for audio Bibles to make an impact, as India is the second-largest smartphone market in the world after China and ahead of the U.S. While the literacy rates are reported at 71% only half can read or write in their home language fluently because they are oral learners. This means that without an audio Bible many will never fully experience God’s Word in their home language.

Audio Production Update

The Growing Demand for Audio Bibles

This year, YouVersion has received 22.3 million chapter requests for Davar audio Bible recordings—Indonesian has had over 21 million chapter requests. 770,000 for Mongolian. 194,000 for Yoruba in Nigeria. Praise the Lord! May God’s Word continue to go forth and transform lives for his Glory!
