The Word of God for Iraqw Speakers
Also known as Erokh, Iraku, Iraqu, Kiiraqw, Mbulu or Mbulunge.
In the Arusha and Manyara regions of northern Tanzania, approximately 872,000 people speak Iraqw. The traditional culture of the Iraqw is rooted in rich oral literature. Historically, the Iraqw have been seen as outsiders from other peoples within Tanzania. They currently live in linguistic isolation, as their language is very different from those spoken by neighboring people.
The Iraqw people remain devoted to their own way of life and religions, despite the influence of Christianity, Catholicism and Islam.Their traditional religion is centered around the existence of two spiritual deities, Lo’a and Netlangw, who created and inhabited the earth. Only 40% claim Christianity and active Christ-followers are rare.
